ABOUT ME

ABOUT ME

In the 70’s I was introduced to the Alexander Technique during my Physiotherapy training.

My wish to train as an Alexander teacher strengthened while working as a Physiotherapist. I wanted to find a more empowering and long-lasting method of working with illness, and because like so many of my patients I too suffered from chronic back problems.

In 1983 I completed my training with Misha Magidov at the North London School of the Alexander Technique. Since then I have worked in private practice with people of all ages - young children from the age of 6 to senior citizens aged 90 - and from all walks of life, everyone coming for very different reasons and needs to have Alexander lessons.

My practice is located in West Hampstead, London NW3. Online lessons are also available.

In addition, since 1984 I have been teaching music students of all instruments and singers at the Royal Academy of Music, London. I have organised three international conferences for Alexander Teaching in Music Colleges and run regular workshops for musicians in Europe and Japan. I am a tutor on “The Performing Self”, a project, in collaboration with Rose Bruford College of Theatre and Performance, aimed at developing skills in teaching performing artists to apply the Alexander Technique to their craft.

Other teaching has included working with Steven Shaw of The Art of Swimming on his holiday swimming courses and swimming teacher training courses; teaching nursery teachers of Ready Steady Go individually and in groups; exploring the Technique with dancers during movement and dance projects.

I am a STAT Moderator for a number of Alexander teacher training courses in the UK and abroad. For the last 10 years I have been invited to teach and hold regular workshops in Europe and Japan.

From 1995 until 2004 I served on the Council of the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT), Great Britain, including as Honorary Secretary and Chair of the Society.

I also served as Chair of the Training Course Committee and was involved in the process of Voluntary Self-regulation of the Alexander Technique profession.

I am a member and a former director of Friends of the Alexander Technique.

Side by side with Alexander teaching, I have also developed my studio practice in Fine Art. See examples of my Fine Art work here.
